When planning a safari to Botswana you are spoilt for choice and it can get really confusing if you are not familiar with all the places worth visiting.
The Botswana tourism tips I will be sharing with you today will help you plan a better safari by revealing some of the best places you can visit while in Botswana.
Top Safari Destinations
1. The Okavango Delta
This is Botswana’s flagship Tourism destination and in my humble opinion, it is second to none in terms of beauty and game viewing opportunities.
The Okavango Delta is famous globally for being the world’s largest inland delta.
Some of the activities you can do at the Delta include mokoro rides, bird watching, boat cruises, fishing, horse riding as well elephant back safaris.
2. The Kalahari Desert
The Kalahari desert covers most of Botswana. In fact research shows that it covers up to 84{4962d8e2c73ee88aad7125033d5658fd247043cd5a624d71ac5e800504586b0b} of the country. Even though it is a desert, ironically there are plenty of animals to see in the Game reserves that are found within the desert.
These include the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the Kgalagadi Transfortier Park and the Khutse Game Reserve.
Activities in these reserves include Game drives, village tours, walks with the san, as well as guided nature walks.
3. The Makgadikagadi Salt Pans
These salt pans are one of the largest in the world and according to research the pans were once a very large lake.
Some of the attractions you can visit and see at the Makgadikgadi pans are then annual Zebra migration, as well as the flamingo migration at the Nata Bird Sanctuary.
4. The Chobe National Park
Of all the Botswana tourism attractions my favorite is the Chobe. This includes the Chobe National Park and the Chobe River.
This area has one of the largest Elephant populations in the world. There are literally elephants everywhere in this region.
Be sure to try the evening boat cruise on the Chobe river. The sunsets above the river are unbelievably beautiful.
These are among the top places you can visit in Botswana because they offer the best game viewing opportunities.
If you can afford to visit all four then that would be great. You will however need to spend a few days at each place to really appreciate its beauty.
On the other hand, if you are on a budget, then I would suggest you focus only on the Chobe National Park and The Okavango Delta. These two offer the very best of what Africa has to offer in terms of viewing wildlife and experiencing a true African safari.
